How to use the CBD price calculator

The price calculator measures the value of CBD products. To make it easy to compare the prices of different CBD products, we list the cost per milligram (mg) of CBD and assign it one of three ranks. The bargain grade is for low-price products ($0.01-$0.076/mg CBD), the market grade is for products close to the average market price ($0.077-$0.166/mg), and the pricy grade is for relatively expensive products (>$0.167/mg). Keep in mind that different product types vary in price; for example, CBD isolate powder is cheaper than CBD oil.

Enter the price of the product you bought or are interested in, and the total amount of CBD listed on it’s label. The calculator will show the cost per one milligram (mg) of CBD and assign it one of three possible price grades: low (bargain), average (market), or pricey (high). This makes it easy to see if you’re getting a good deal and compare the value of CBD products.

CBD price FAQ

  • What is CBD?
CBD is a phytochemical found within the cannabis plant. CBD is short for cannabidiol, one of the two most plentiful cannabinoids found in cannabis, the other being THC. CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system found in all animals and fish, including humans.
  • Is CBD safe?
CBD is found to be generally safe. There have been no deaths attributed to ingestion of the cannabis plant, including CBD. The FDA has approved one CBD based drug called Epidiolex used for epileptic seizure reduction. The FDA reports that CBD can cause liver injury and interact with other medications. There have been no reports of liver injury in humans who have taken CBD even at high doses. Side effects of taking CBD may include drowsiness, diarrhea, loss of appetite, and change in mood. There is more research needed around the safety and efficacy of CBD. Consult your health care provider before taking CBD to ensure it is right for you.
  • What can CBD help with?
The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) states CBD has been shown to reduce stress in animals including rats. Other studies show that participants with social anxiety disorder (SAD) experienced overall reduction in anxiety levels after taking CBD. CBD is also known to help with PTSD symptoms including replaying negative memories and enduring nightmares. People with anxiety may have lower levels of anandamide. Introducing CBD can help decrease the reuptake of anandamide and cause it to hang around longer which could decrease anxiety symptoms. CBD is also thought to stimulate serotonin receptors. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that plays an important role in mental health. Having insufficient serotonin can also contribute to anxiety. This study found a significant decrease in insomnia symptoms for participants taking CBD and other cannabinoids. Research also shows that CBD inhibits inflammatory molecules in the body that contribute to pain. The Arthritis Foundation states CBD appears fairly safe and might help certain types of pain.
  • How should I compare prices of different CBD products?
CBD pricing will vary based one the amount of CBD in the product. Pricing is typically calculated by milligram dosage of CBD. For example, a 1000 mg CBD product should be more expensive than a 500 mg CBD product. You should also consider the amount of product you are getting. A four ounce 200 mg salve may be more pricey than a two ounce 200 mg salve.
  • Why are full-spectrum CBD products usually more expensive than isolate or broad-spectrum products?
Full-spectrum CBD products do contain THC, but only 0.3% at dry weight or less. The full hemp plant and all the cannabinoids present are represented in a full-spectrum product. Full-spectrum CBD is typically more effective than isolates or broad-spectrum products due to the theory of the entourage effect. The entourage effect is the idea that plant-based medicine, such as that derived from hemp, is more effective when all of the phytochemicals are present as opposed to only a select few. Isolate products only contain CBD, and broad-spectrum include all the cannabinoids minus THC.
  • How much does a 100 mg CBD product cost?
According to our database, currently the average price mg is $0.18 per mg of CBD in products that contain 100 mg and the general average price for those products from all consumption methods together is $23. Prices can vary based on product type. For example, a cosmetic product with 100 mg of CBD may be more expensive than a 100 mg oil tincture. Also, a 100 mg full-spectrum product may be more costly than a 100 mg isolate product.
