CBD, short for cannabidiol, is a compound found naturally occurring in the cannabis plant. It is known as a cannabinoid and THC, tetrahydrocannabidiol, carries the same classification along with over 100 others. However, it is important to note the major difference between CBD and THC. CBD does not produce the psychoactive effects commonly associated with marijuana’s high, that belongs to THC.
When the endocannabinoid system was discovered over 30 years ago researchers began investigating all the ways this system works in our bodies. Over recent years science has shown CBD works in just about every system in the body to produce some impressive benefits.
While the FDA does not regulate supplements, which CBD is classified as, they have approved a drug for to treat epilepsy that is CBD-based. This fact alone shows how CBD relaxes the mind and enables it to function in a balanced manner.
This is where CBD + Yoga is born. A West Hollywood based Yoga studio, Zen Yoga, has developed a yoga program that takes relaxation to a next level and prolongs its presence far past the class. Yoga students taking this class are given a CBD infused gummy bear and enter a room with CBD infused candles and oils.
This particular class at Zen Yoga goes by the name CBD Candlelight which uses aromatherapy along with CBD. Each participant chooses a CBD and essential oils infused candle with their own scent preference, like peppermint, lavender rose, or eucalyptus. Each candle has a specific intent either mindful focus or stress relief.
The CBD infused gummy is optional and THC free. This unique and groundbreaking class is one hour long and just $22 offered two days a week. We have a feeling more class times will be added once word gets out how effective it is at relaxing its students.
Class participants rave about the benefits of this unique class that last well into the night for them. They report improved sleep and waking more rested. In a report to News1 Spectrum of California, attendee Bray Reynard, who has a high-stress job and long hours stated she was sold after her experience that happened long after the class had ended.
She reports getting a, “good night sleep,” and trying to determine if it was from the yoga, the CBD, or a combination of the two. Either way she says she is going back because the results were that good!
Yoga is unique in that it is a strenuous exercise that also enables the body and mind to relax and find balance. However, for many this benefit is only present while the exercise is being performed. By adding CBD to the mix the yoga instructor at Zen Yoga instructor Brandee Aquino practicing this approach may have found the key to longer-lasting yoga benefits.
Taking in CBD before the class gets started can also help to get the mind and body in a state that is ready to focus and let go of the worries of the day.
Zen Yoga may have one of the first, as seemingly best implemented, CBD and yoga class in the nation. This may lead you to wonder why you can’t get the same benefits with your own CBD and yoga in your home or at your favorite yoga studio. While it may not match the atmosphere that Zen Yoga provides, it could certainly be worth seeing how your own CBD gummy and yoga routine work together.
Because CBDs benefits go far beyond relaxation and a better night’s sleep mixing it with yoga a couple times a week could be a great way to introduce this compound into your health regimen. By starting out with taking CBD with yoga you are getting the extra benefits like mood enhancement, pain relief, and can even regulate appetite. CBD + Yoga may be just the beginning of your CBD journey.
