When news hit that Coca-Cola was producing a CBD-infused beverage enthusiasts on both sides were excited, to say the least. The rumor was easy to believe considering the widespread use of both products. Unfortunately, this Atlanta-based beverage company dashed these speculations recently making their stance quite clear.
Where did the rumor begin, you ask? As with most rumors; social media. This time in the form of a YouTube video posted by screen name user “Gabor the Blind Guy.” This YouTuber released a video which featured a Coca-Cola can with a childproof lid, which he claims to have access to because of his father’s position in a company responsible for bottling and capping machines.
Gabor states because of his father’s position as an engineer which works with major pharmaceuticals and food companies that he is privy to information regarding Coca-Cola. That information, which is now known to be untrue, is the company’s plan to debut a soda with CBD extract set to launch in Canada.
In a statement to Bloomberg News Coca-Cola representatives state the rumors are untrue and,
“As we have stated many times, we have no plans to enter the CBD market.”
At this point Coca-Cola is fairly clear that they will not be entering the CBD field and unfortunately it sounds like they are one of few companies not jumping into the industry.
