Methodology

  • Read our methodology for more details about ranking and our review process.

    Data Collection and Rating

In our review process, we receive CBD products directly from the brand to personally review ourselves, so we can give you an accurate idea of the packaging, potency, taste, smell, feel, and overall experience of each product. We also discuss the company’s shipping and returns policy.
Another important step we take is reviewing each individual product for details such as the certificate of analysis to assess the CBD level and CBD variance, THC level, and contaminants.
We take all factors into account and give each CBD brand and each CBD product a score for each parameter.
All of the information we collect is generated into a concise, easy to read review and put into our extensive database. Keep in mind, our reviews are never intended to substitute or act as medical advice.

    Product DataBase

Our database collects key information for each product, including CBD product prices, potencies, third-party lab test results, flavors, additional ingredients, hemp quality, extract types, product variety, and more.
We then use all of this combined data to give each brand and product a standardized rating out of five points.

    Brand Review Process

There are many factors we consider when we review the quality, integrity and products of a CBD brand. We rate each brand on several factors including:

    • Transparency & accuracy. It is important that a CBD brand is forthcoming with who makes up their team, their mission, manufacturing process, and lab reports. Also, we look for the accuracy of the CBD and THC levels in the products’ lab reports.
    • Hemp quality. Hemp quality can be a deciding factor between a good CBD brand and a great CBD brand. We look for organic and sustainable farming methods with attention to detail in each manufacturing step.
    • The variety of products they offer. We like to see several CBD product types and flavors.
    • Customer service. It is essential that each CBD company has multiple ways to connect to customer service to ask questions. We look for speedy and complete responses.
    • Price and discounts. Competitive pricing is an important aspect of being a top-rated CBD brand. We also look for discount options and ways to save on your order.

    Market Reports

Another way Leafreport stands out from other CBD review websites is our evidence-based market reports. For each one, we purchase different types of CBD products and send them for independent lab testing to check whether their levels of CBD and other cannabinoids match the label.

    Information Updates

Writers and editors conduct our reviews and our database on an annual basis but continually make updates throughout the year. We maintain frequent contact with brands and highlight any changes in offerings.

    The Review Team

Our review team is made up of a wide chain of qualified CBD review writers, some with medical degrees, some with statistics backgrounds, others with ample experience in the CBD arena. Each and every one of our CBD reviews are approved by our medical reviewer before being published on our website to ensure all information is accurate.

    Conflicts of Interest

While Leafreport does have partnerships with many of the reviewed brands, we manage potential conflicts of interest by maintaining a wall between our content and business operations. This wall is designed to prevent our writers and the review process from being influenced or impacted by our business partnerships. This way, all reviews can provide an unbiased review that serves the interests of our users.

  • About the Company

Tommy Chong is a very recognizable name in entertainment as well as the cannabis arena. He is known for his passion for cannabis and his marijuana centered comedy show Cheech & Chong. In addition to being a comedian, he is both an actor, musician, as well as cannabis rights activist. Tommy’s company, Tommy Chong CBD, was created out of his passion for CBD and his first hand experience with it’s benefits while recovering from cancer.

Aside from Tommy, there is not a lot of information about who else makes up the Tommy Chong CBD team. However, they mention that they partnered with a leading nutraceutical manufacturer. To get in touch with Tommy Chong’s customer service, you can call, email, or use the message box on the contact page. They list a physical address of their headquarters on their terms and conditions page, which is in Pleasant Grove, UT.

The FAQ page is limited and answers a few common questions about CBD, if CBD is safe, and how to take it etc. Ample information about shipping, returns, and the company’s policies are outlined on the terms & conditions page.

The product pages are comprehensive and provide detailed information about the content of CBD and THC as well as other ingredients and how to use the products. All products are third party tested for purity and potency. When we assessed the lab results for the 500mg Full Spectrum CBD Oil, it showed that there is 501mg of CBD per bottle and no detectable THC. This means the CBD variance is 0.2%, which is well within the 10% acceptable CBD variance level. The sample was negative for solvents and heavy metals, but was not tested for microbial contamination.

    Manufacturing Process

All of the hemp used in Tommy Chong CBD is non-GMO and American grown without pesticides. Their manufacturing partner, Dr. Clark, is said to be a leading facility for the past 20 years and has perfected a process of blending nano-homogenized organic, raw ingredients to facilitate maximum absorption. They do not provide any additional background information on Dr. Clark. They do, however, mention that their manufacturing facility has received FDA approval and is GMP certified.

All of their ingredients are processed in a sterile environment and cold pressed. They do not practice any heat pasteurization, which could damage the herb’s natural components. The end result is nano, full spectrum CBD products that are in their most natural form. The ingredients that they choose to include in their products were selected based upon research studies which support their efficacy. Both the raw ingredients and final products are tested for purity and potency.

Tommy Chong CBD uses a nano technology to extract and process their CBD. This means they create extremely small CBD particles (10 to 60 nanometers) using high pressure and diamonds. Nano CBDparticles are thousands of times smaller than non-nano CBD particles and are said to be absorbed more quickly and are more bioavailable than non-nano CBD. The nano CBD is combined with emulsifiers to further enhance stability.

    Buying Experience

The Tommy Chong website is intuitive and easy to make purchases on. All of their products are categorized under the shop tab and have comprehensive information about the product, how to use it, and the ingredients. Once all your products are added to your cart and you put in your address, the shipping cost is calculated. In our case, it was a flat rate of $4.95.

We received our products after two days via USPS 2 day priority mail in a USPS labeled box. There was no indication that there was CBD inside, which means they are discrete with their packaging. Inside our products were wrapped in brown paper and cushioned with biodegradable packing peanuts.

Their return policy is very liberal. They offer a lifetime, money back guarantee meaning you can return your product at any point for a full refund if you are not satisfied.

We contacted customer service via email to ask about the third party lab results of our products. After two email attempts and about one week of waiting, we did not receive a response.
