The bottom line

My overall rating of the RSHO full spectrum oil (Gold Label) was very good. The product is excellent, and the company offers a wide range of other products in the range of $29 to $329, $0.03 – $0.78 per mg CBD so there is something for everyone.

RSHO has as its parent company Medical Marijuana, a first to market company that continues to be a trailblazer in the industry. The website has lots of great information, but it can be difficult to navigate given that all parent company products are searchable. They have everything from hemp foods to clothing in addition to CBD products. The sheer amount of information on the site can be overwhelming depending on the type of search you perform. Once the RSHO product line is located, consumers find that the hemp used in the RSHO CBD products is sourced from European farms and manufactured using a solvent free CO2 extraction process. Overall, the buying and shipping experiences were great. The product was easy to order and it arrived promptly. The lab reports, provided by the third party reputable ProVerde Labs, were clear and transparent. Each batch is tested at three distinct points in the manufacturing process.

Pros: Cons:
  • Triple lab tested at extraction, arrival at U.S. Customs and after the product is formulated
  • Transparent labeling of ingredients, certifications and QR code that links to lab testing
  • 10% first time purchase discount
  • Educational e-book, CBD Oil: Your Questions Answered is a comprehensive guide that answers most consumer questions about CBD
  • Charity support of ECHO: Education, Collaboration, and Hope
  • No dropper with bottle, so a dose is difficult to measure accurately
  • Some products’ prices are on the high side (for example – Salve’s price is $0.78/mg CBD)
  • Shipping can take up to 10 days
  • Lab tests are not on website
  • They don’t have an FAQ page

Methodology

  • Read our methodology for more details about ranking and our review process.

    Data Collection and Rating

In our review process, we receive CBD products directly from the brand to personally review ourselves, so we can give you an accurate idea of the packaging, potency, taste, smell, feel, and overall experience of each product. We also discuss the company’s shipping and returns policy.
Another important step we take is reviewing each individual product for details such as the certificate of analysis to assess the CBD level and CBD variance, THC level, and contaminants.
We take all factors into account and give each CBD brand and each CBD product a score for each parameter.
All of the information we collect is generated into a concise, easy to read review and put into our extensive database. Keep in mind, our reviews are never intended to substitute or act as medical advice.

    Product DataBase

Our database collects key information for each product, including CBD product prices, potencies, third-party lab test results, flavors, additional ingredients, hemp quality, extract types, product variety, and more.
We then use all of this combined data to give each brand and product a standardized rating out of five points.

    Brand Review Process

There are many factors we consider when we review the quality, integrity and products of a CBD brand. We rate each brand on several factors including:

    • Transparency & accuracy. It is important that a CBD brand is forthcoming with who makes up their team, their mission, manufacturing process, and lab reports. Also, we look for the accuracy of the CBD and THC levels in the products’ lab reports.
    • Hemp quality. Hemp quality can be a deciding factor between a good CBD brand and a great CBD brand. We look for organic and sustainable farming methods with attention to detail in each manufacturing step.
    • The variety of products they offer. We like to see several CBD product types and flavors.
    • Customer service. It is essential that each CBD company has multiple ways to connect to customer service to ask questions. We look for speedy and complete responses.
    • Price and discounts. Competitive pricing is an important aspect of being a top-rated CBD brand. We also look for discount options and ways to save on your order.

    Market Reports

Another way Leafreport stands out from other CBD review websites is our evidence-based market reports. For each one, we purchase different types of CBD products and send them for independent lab testing to check whether their levels of CBD and other cannabinoids match the label.

    Information Updates

Writers and editors conduct our reviews and our database on an annual basis but continually make updates throughout the year. We maintain frequent contact with brands and highlight any changes in offerings.

    The Review Team

Our review team is made up of a wide chain of qualified CBD review writers, some with medical degrees, some with statistics backgrounds, others with ample experience in the CBD arena. Each and every one of our CBD reviews are approved by our medical reviewer before being published on our website to ensure all information is accurate.

    Conflicts of Interest

While Leafreport does have partnerships with many of the reviewed brands, we manage potential conflicts of interest by maintaining a wall between our content and business operations. This wall is designed to prevent our writers and the review process from being influenced or impacted by our business partnerships. This way, all reviews can provide an unbiased review that serves the interests of our users.

  • About The Company

Real Scientific Hemp Oil (RSHO) was the first brand for Medical Marijuana Inc., so you might think of RSHO as the flagship that started it all in 2012. RSHO is considered to be the first mainstream CBD oil brand to hit the market. Both RSHO and Medical Marijuana Inc. really strive to uphold their upscale status in the market by providing quality products and transparent triple tested lab results. They use only non-GMO hemp and a solvent free CO2 extraction process. They profess to taking great pride in the science behind CBD and their ability to deliver very pure products to people who need them.

The RSHO labels and product pages are very straightforward and provide details on the total quantity of CBD in each product as well as the CBD concentration, clear instructions and clear consumption methods. In particular, the CBD quantity per serving was made clear. That is not always the case with all CBD brands.

Pricing is clear for the gold, blue and green labeled products. The gold label product which was the one I ordered, was the first and only CBD product ever to be included in the PDR (Prescriber’s Desk Reference). This is a reference guide that prescribers use to learn about medications they are considering for patients. Consumption methods and use instructions were clear on both the label and on the website. Detailed information is provided on the extraction process and third party lab testing.

Labeling is also clear for the gold, blue and green product categories. They are clear on the CBD concentrations present in each product and the CBD quantity per serving. The THC level, however, is not really mentioned on the labels. A QR code on each label takes the consumer directly to the batch lab test and the lab report is very clear. For example, regarding THC, in the lab test concentrations for THC as well as THCA and THCV were clearly listed.

Regarding lab results, here is what is reported for the CBD gold label 800mg CBD product:

    • CBD quantity was 755 mg for a product advertised as containing 800mg. This represents a 5.6% variance and is within the acceptable 10% variance range.
    • THC concentration is negligible (listed as ND on the lab test for non-detectable)
    • General cleanliness of the product was fair, except for heavy metals such as arsenic and lead which were slightly above the recommended levels for this particular batch.
    • Microorganisms such as yeasts and molds, as well as E. coli, Staph and salmonella were either not detected or were far below the upper limits, showing a clean product in this regard.

The company website also provided very clear information regarding ordering, shipping and return policies. Shipping options are very clear, even detailing when your order will be shipped. This is dependant on the time you place the order. Return policies are clear, and the company clearly states the products it will not accept for return, like used vape pens. Pricing for the products was clear and there was a separate link on the website to navigate to all CBD products that are on sale at a particular time.

    Manufacturing Process

It was a bit difficult to find information about the RSHO specific manufacturing process. The parent company uses the same manufacturing process for all its brands (RSHO, Dixie Botanicals, etc.) so you have to go back to the parent company site to get this information.

RSHO CBD products are made from non-GMO hemp grown in Europe, in countries such as the Netherlands on family owned farms by farmers with decades of cultivation experience. The hemp is grown without the use of pesticides, herbicides or chemical fertilizers using centuries old proven organic farming techniques. These farmers grow unique cannabis varieties that are CBD rich and naturally low in THC. However, I could not find information on whether the hemp is USDA certified or whether the company follows the European Medicines Agency (EMA) guidelines. I didn’t see the familiar green EU EMA logo anywhere on the label or on the website. The RSHO site itself is not searchable, which makes finding information a bit difficult. If you want information, as a website user you are channeled to the parent website HempMeds.com which is searchable. Although I found several articles there about European cultivation, I didn’t find any of the above certifications. I did see that the products are certified by the U.S. Hemp Authority.

There is nothing on the label regarding THC. The lab tests do have THC results but you have to link to the lab test results using the QR code. The farms are licensed and registered in Europe and the hempseed is too. The Netherlands is a perfect growing environment and the hemp plants are a naturally resilient crop, so nature apparently works her magic in the Netherlands.

The extraction technique is a solvent free CO2 extraction process designed to safely yield highly concentrated CBD oil in a non-toxic manner. RSHO makes both isolates and full spectrum products in which the other beneficial elements like amino acids, vitamins, terpenes, iron and essential fatty acids all remain in the extract. Other beneficial cannabinoids remain, too, like cannabichromene (CBC), cannabigerol (CBG) and cannabinol (CBN). The base CBD oil that is extracted is then formulated into all the RSHO oils, tinctures, and salves. Once the extraction process is complete, the company uses simple filtering and heating methods called light touch methods to create four distinct hemp CBD oil formulations that subsequently go into their four main CBD product offerings. There is not much additional information offered about the light touch method and it is difficult to determine from the parent company site whether this is a proprietary method used by this company or whether it is a generic process used by many manufacturers.

    Lab Testing

Each batch of Real Scientific Hemp Oil is triple lab tested at three distinct points in the production process: (1) when the oil is extracted from the hemp plant, (2) when the oil arrives from the Netherlands source and clears U.S. Customs and (3) after product formulation.

The triple lab testing was not emphasized on the product label, but the bottle does have a distinctive QR code that allows the user to trace the product back to the original batch from the manufacturing process. During the purchase process, I used the Medical Marijuana parent site to order RSHO oil. Scanning the QR code took me to a site called HempMedspx.com, which I realized was the parent company of RSHO and a company owned by the larger parent company Medical Marijuana. There was no cross reference between the two sites, so at first, I thought HempMedspx was a distributor of RSHO. It was a bit confusing. The name HempMeds is displayed on the bottle but there was no frame of reference. Nevertheless, the QR code does take you directly to the lab tests located on the parent HempMeds site. The site directs the user to refer to the lot number on the bottle to find your specific batch. On the parent site, all CBD oil products are listed for all HempMeds products. I had to find the RSHO gold label product in the list.

    undefined

The company also tests for safety to ensure that the products do not contain solvents, heavy metals, or other harmful agents or contaminants such as molds and pesticides that can sometimes be found in inferior CBD products. Medical Marijuana is an industry pioneer in safety and they have a large section of their website dedicated to that topic.

The lab tests are performed by ProVerde Laboratories, based in Massachusetts and Maine. This lab provides all of the testing for RSHO branded products. Pro Verde is widely regarded in the industry as a very reputable, independent third party lab.

RSHO carries a few different products including oil, tinctures, dab isolate and capsules, The HempMeds site does carry other lines like a pet line of CBD but it is not branded as RSHO. The main RSHO product line has either a green, blue or gold label. Green labels represent the rawest form of CBD extract, meaning it is the most natural full spectrum product. The gold label is a filtered product where most of the plant material has been removed. This has mainly been done to improve taste. The blue label represents the RSHO high CBD content product line; the product has been mildly heated to convert CBDa into further CBD to produce a highly concentrated product. RSHO even offers a special blue-gold label blended product which is the most concentrated CBD oil. Finally, the Maximum Strength CBD oil concentrate is a Green/Gold Label combination.

As such, CBD concentrations are as follows:

    • Green Label: 10% CBD
    • Blue Label: 17% CBD
    • Gold Label: 24% CBD
    • Special Blend (Blue/Gold): 38% CBD
    • Maximum Strength Blend (Green/Gold): 45% CBD

The company offers three CBD bundle products in the RSHO brand.

    1. There is a green label oil/salve bundle ($134) that contains the 4-ounce jar of CBD salve (50mg CBD) and the RSHO Green Label full 1spectrum CBD 1000mg oil.
    2. The RSHO-X/salve bundle ($173) has the same jar of CBD salve as the above bundle, but contains a bottle of the RSHO-X product, which the company advertises as the first ever non-detectable THC CBD hemp oil. Each 4 oz bottle contains 1000 mg of CBD.
    3. The final bundle is the salve and green label CBD capsule bundle ($117). This contains the same salve as in the above two bundles, but also contains the green label CBD capsules. Each capsule has 25 mg of raw CBD hemp oil plus 200mg of calcium and 200mg of powdered turmeric root and white willow bark.

For beginners looking to buy a bundle product, the capsule/salve bundle is probably a good starting place. Consuming 25mg of CBD and seeing how you react to it is a good starting point.

    Buying Experience

The Medical Marijuana parent site has a wide range of brands and hemp products, so initial navigation can be a bit overwhelming. Once I got into the RSHO branded section of products, navigation was easier. In particular, RSHO offered two sorting capabilities that you don’t often see on CBD sites: biggest savings and CBD serving size. These were great features. They offer a search by name, but that doesn’t necessarily give the user all the capsule products or all the tincture products, so that was a bit disappointing because it is not as easy to compare similar products.

However, the overall buying process was very easy and straightforward. RSHO products ship via UPS within the U.S. They offer a range of shipping options from overnight to the standard 7-10 day shipping. In addition, there is free shipping for orders over $100. RSHO does not ship to U.S. territories or outside the U.S.

Even though I ordered standard 7-10 day shipping, my product box arrived quickly, maybe because I only ordered one product. The company reliably ships via UPS and processes most orders the same day or the next business day if the order is placed after 1pm.

The company’s return policy is very straightforward. RSHO offers a 30-day risk free trial on all CBD products and will accept returns for almost any reason if a product doesn’t meet your expectations. They reserve the right to either issue a refund or exchange your product for another product. For obvious hygienic reasons, they cannot accept returns of any used products like syringe shots, etc.

I ordered the Gold Label 1000mg RSHO oil. Shipping policy is as follows: the company ships within 1 to 2 business days of order placement and ships via UPS 7-10 day ground service. You can pay for faster shipping, but I chose the 7-10 day option. The product was nicely bubble wrapped in the box, and the product came in a large brown bottle. The unboxing was as expected except that I was a bit disappointed to see that there was no dropper.

As mentioned, I ordered only the Gold Label 1000mg CBD oil. This is supplied as a 24% CBD concentrate. The bottle I purchased contained four ounces. The product comes in a dark bottle to protect it from UV light.

The oil is very pure as the label attests. The only addition is an MCT (medium chain triglyceride) coconut oil that serves as a carrier oil promoting better cell uptake. This is a full spectrum product, and that is what I was looking for to get the full benefits of the hemp plant. The coconut oil used is organic and RSHO uses minimal processing while creating their CBD oil. I can tell by the taste and I am happy to pay for that quality.

On the label, RSHO recommends using 3 to 4 teaspoons one or two times daily or as recommended by a health professional. The RSHO brand does not recommend dosages, nor do they claim any specific medical benefits.
