Why you can trustlogo

  • Leafreport's mission is to provide accurate, objective, and valuable content for CBD, which is why we're transparent about our review process  and  how we rate products and brands. We may receive compensation. Here’s how we make money.
  • Our review is consumer-focused only and we do not check or take a stand regarding medical effects.
  • Statements regarding CBD products have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration.
  • Please advise your physician prior to each use of CBD.

The Bottom Line

HempMeds made its debut in 2012. The company was the first to introduce hemp based CBD oils to the market in America. In fact, they were also the first company to gain the okay from the federal government for importation of CBD. The countries used were to farm hemp were Brazile, Paraguay, Argentina and their primary supplier, Mexico.

Owned by Medical Marijuana, Inc., HempMeds proudly proclaims that they have served over 100,000 customers. They are serious about their products and proudly stand behind them.

All of HempMeds products are free of contaminants. They are also made from non-GMO hemp that is cultivated naturally without the use of herbicides, pesticides, or chemical fertilizers. Without a doubt, natural family practices are an integral part of all of the hemp grown and harvested for HempMeds products.

HempMeds puts its products through a series of three lab screenings that are carried out by third party labs that provide reports. They use respected Pro Verde Laboratories to carry out all of their testing. They post the lab results on their site which clearly shows their dedication to transparency.

Without a doubt, unlike similar CBD brands, the entire process of testing is extensive at HempMeds. The triple testing regime sets them apart from the competition.

  • First Tests: Testing takes place in Europe during the hemp plant’s growing season, after harvesting, and then again when the CBD is extracted.
  • Second Tests: Batch tests are carried out when the CBD oil arrives in the United States.
  • Third Tests: The final tests are conducted to maintain the Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) certification which are carried out for all food and supplements. During the process, testing is carried out twice during different stages of oil processing.

All of the CBD products offered by HempMeds undergo supercritical CO2 extraction which leaves no solvents in the extract. Overall, CO2 extraction is considered the gold standard for extraction.

You can contact HempMeds via their online chat service. Employees respond promptly during business hours.

The prices for HempMeds are very competitive with other brands. HempMeds sells an impressive product line that includes:

  • Tinctures average $0.21 per mg
  • Oils average $0.03 to $0.36 per mg.
  • Topicals average $0.4 to $0.9 per mg
  • Capsules average $0.11 to 0,29 per mg
  • Pets products average $0.07 to $0.08 per mg
  • Edibles average $0.13 to $0.30 per mg
  • Vape oils average $0.03 per mg

All of the company’s products are made with full spectrum hemp extract, meaning it contains cannabinoids like CBD, terpenes, fatty acids, flavonoids, vitamins, and minerals.
There will likely be trace amounts of THC, all within the legal limit for hemp (<0.3%).

Pros: Cons:
  • Ship both domestically and internationally to over 40 countries
  • Extensive laboratory testing
  • CO2 extraction for purity
  • Large product selection
  • The website is slightly overwhelming with the sheer volume of CBD products offered

Methodology

  • Read our methodology for more details about ranking and our review process.

    Data Collection and Rating

In our review process, we receive CBD products directly from the brand to personally review ourselves, so we can give you an accurate idea of the packaging, potency, taste, smell, feel, and overall experience of each product. We also discuss the company’s shipping and returns policy.
Another important step we take is reviewing each individual product for details such as the certificate of analysis to assess the CBD level and CBD variance, THC level, and contaminants.
We take all factors into account and give each CBD brand and each CBD product a score for each parameter.
All of the information we collect is generated into a concise, easy to read review and put into our extensive database. Keep in mind, our reviews are never intended to substitute or act as medical advice.

    Product DataBase

Our database collects key information for each product, including CBD product prices, potencies, third-party lab test results, flavors, additional ingredients, hemp quality, extract types, product variety, and more.
We then use all of this combined data to give each brand and product a standardized rating out of five points.

    Brand Review Process

There are many factors we consider when we review the quality, integrity and products of a CBD brand. We rate each brand on several factors including:

    • Transparency & accuracy. It is important that a CBD brand is forthcoming with who makes up their team, their mission, manufacturing process, and lab reports. Also, we look for the accuracy of the CBD and THC levels in the products’ lab reports.
    • Hemp quality. Hemp quality can be a deciding factor between a good CBD brand and a great CBD brand. We look for organic and sustainable farming methods with attention to detail in each manufacturing step.
    • The variety of products they offer. We like to see several CBD product types and flavors.
    • Customer service. It is essential that each CBD company has multiple ways to connect to customer service to ask questions. We look for speedy and complete responses.
    • Price and discounts. Competitive pricing is an important aspect of being a top-rated CBD brand. We also look for discount options and ways to save on your order.

    Market Reports

Another way Leafreport stands out from other CBD review websites is our evidence-based market reports. For each one, we purchase different types of CBD products and send them for independent lab testing to check whether their levels of CBD and other cannabinoids match the label.

    Information Updates

Writers and editors conduct our reviews and our database on an annual basis but continually make updates throughout the year. We maintain frequent contact with brands and highlight any changes in offerings.

    The Review Team

Our review team is made up of a wide chain of qualified CBD review writers, some with medical degrees, some with statistics backgrounds, others with ample experience in the CBD arena. Each and every one of our CBD reviews are approved by our medical reviewer before being published on our website to ensure all information is accurate.

    Conflicts of Interest

While Leafreport does have partnerships with many of the reviewed brands, we manage potential conflicts of interest by maintaining a wall between our content and business operations. This wall is designed to prevent our writers and the review process from being influenced or impacted by our business partnerships. This way, all reviews can provide an unbiased review that serves the interests of our users.

    About HempMeds

HempMeds was the first company to introduce cannabidiol to Brazil and Mexico. Without a doubt, HempMeds paved the way for the bevy of CBD brands that currently exist. They were true pioneers in the industry.

The company is not just the head of HempMeds but also the parent company of Cannabis Beauty Defined, Real Scientific Hemp Oil, Cibaderm, Dixie Botanicals, and Cibdex.

On HempMeds, the prices vary dramatically and fit just about any budget with products that run from as low as $19 to as high as $1545 with a price per mg of $0.03 to $0.21. Overall, their prices are very affordable and competitive with other well known CBD brands. Their inventory is impressive with hundreds of products. Each one undergoes their hallmark Triple Lab Testing process to ensure that the standards are never subpar.

All of the hemp used in HempMeds has been certified as non-GMO. Their dedication to ensuring purity is refreshing.

HempMeds also has a Veteran’s Discount Program. They offer special savings for those who have served in the military in an effort to make their products affordable.

You can choose between capsules, tinctures, oils, vape oils, edibles, and topicals. They even offer pet products. All of their products feature labels that clearly provide information about each product, dosage suggestions, and supplement facts. The labels are nicely laid out and provide a great deal of information.

They use supercritical CO2 extraction to ensure that all of the products are solvent free. Everything also undergoes independent third party laboratory testing. During the testing, the CBD per serving and THC/CBD ratio of the products are checked in batches to guarantee they fall within acceptable ranges.

    Leafreport’s market reports score

Topicals report – HempMeds received  an «F» score in our topicals products report where we tested 40 different topical products in an independent lab.

    Manufacturing Process

The manufacturing process of HempMeds is relatively simple which makes it stand out. They use only non-GMO hemp that has been certified organic. The cannabis that they use in their products is also high CBD content hemp that has been chosen specifically because of its impressive cannabinoid ratio. The plants flourish on the European farms under all natural cultivation practices. HempMeds has been U.S. Hemp Authority Certified and they proudly display the U.S. Hemp Authority Certification seal on their website and products.

The farm that grows all of the hemp plants that go into HempMeds products is located in the Netherlands and has been owned by the same family for generations. They use absolutely no herbicides, pesticides, or chemical fertilizers in their farming practices. Only the highest quality hemp is ever used and it has all been sustainably sourced.

Once the hemp has been harvested, it is extracted using clean supercritical CO2 extraction which is entirely free of harsh solvents. It effectively pulls the cannabinoids from the plant’s fibers.

All HempMeds are triple lab tested to check for quality, safety, and cannabinoid content throughout the entire growth and manufacturing process.

We received two products from Hemp Meds to review: HempMeds 8 oz. Hydrating & Purifying Hemp Shampoo (20mg CBD) and HempMeds 8 oz. Hydrating & Purifying Hemp Conditioner (20mg CBD). Each product retails for $17.49 per bottle. The price works out to $0.87 per milligram. The lab results are not printed on the site for these products. I did contact the company via instant message to request that they send me the lab results or direct me to where I can find them online. It took them approximately three business days to answer my email.

Without a doubt, HempMeds offers a wide range of products. They have hundreds on their site. The sheer volume might seem overwhelming to some shoppers.
