The Bottom Line

Hemp Bombs is a CBD company that aims to bring a wide variety of high quality hemp products to its customers at an affordable price. They have been in business since 2016, however, there is not much else known about the company in terms of who is behind it, who makes up the team, or where they are located. Their products are sold both online and in thousands of stores.

Their farms are located in the USA, and they claim to use organic sustainable farming methods. They do not have a USDA organic certification. All of their raw ingredients and products are subject to multiple quality control tests at points within the manufacturing process at their facility in Tampa, Florida. They verify their in house lab testing via third party lab testing. However, we were unable to successfully scan the barcodes on their products, look up the batch numbers, and locate some of our product’s results. We did receive copies from the customer care team via email. They claim to use ethanol extraction. Although there were third party tests for CBD and THC, we did not see the contaminants’ testing results for some products.

Hemp Bombs offers a wide array of CBD products, including edibles, a variety of topicals, oils, vape products, and pet products. Their prices are about average for their edibles and oils, ranging from $0.05 to $0.14 per mg of CBD for most products. We often see well priced CBD oils fall in a range of $0.05 to $0.08 per mg of CBD. When it comes to some of their topicals, prices are higher at $0.20 to $0.25 per mg of CBD.

Methodology

  • Read our methodology for more details about ranking and our review process.

    Data Collection and Rating

In our review process, we receive CBD products directly from the brand to personally review ourselves, so we can give you an accurate idea of the packaging, potency, taste, smell, feel, and overall experience of each product. We also discuss the company’s shipping and returns policy.
Another important step we take is reviewing each individual product for details such as the certificate of analysis to assess the CBD level and CBD variance, THC level, and contaminants.
We take all factors into account and give each CBD brand and each CBD product a score for each parameter.
All of the information we collect is generated into a concise, easy to read review and put into our extensive database. Keep in mind, our reviews are never intended to substitute or act as medical advice.

    Product DataBase

Our database collects key information for each product, including CBD product prices, potencies, third-party lab test results, flavors, additional ingredients, hemp quality, extract types, product variety, and more.
We then use all of this combined data to give each brand and product a standardized rating out of five points.

    Brand Review Process

There are many factors we consider when we review the quality, integrity and products of a CBD brand. We rate each brand on several factors including:

    • Transparency & accuracy. It is important that a CBD brand is forthcoming with who makes up their team, their mission, manufacturing process, and lab reports. Also, we look for the accuracy of the CBD and THC levels in the products’ lab reports.
    • Hemp quality. Hemp quality can be a deciding factor between a good CBD brand and a great CBD brand. We look for organic and sustainable farming methods with attention to detail in each manufacturing step.
    • The variety of products they offer. We like to see several CBD product types and flavors.
    • Customer service. It is essential that each CBD company has multiple ways to connect to customer service to ask questions. We look for speedy and complete responses.
    • Price and discounts. Competitive pricing is an important aspect of being a top-rated CBD brand. We also look for discount options and ways to save on your order.

    Market Reports

Another way Leafreport stands out from other CBD review websites is our evidence-based market reports. For each one, we purchase different types of CBD products and send them for independent lab testing to check whether their levels of CBD and other cannabinoids match the label.

    Information Updates

Writers and editors conduct our reviews and our database on an annual basis but continually make updates throughout the year. We maintain frequent contact with brands and highlight any changes in offerings.

    The Review Team

Our review team is made up of a wide chain of qualified CBD review writers, some with medical degrees, some with statistics backgrounds, others with ample experience in the CBD arena. Each and every one of our CBD reviews are approved by our medical reviewer before being published on our website to ensure all information is accurate.

    Conflicts of Interest

While Leafreport does have partnerships with many of the reviewed brands, we manage potential conflicts of interest by maintaining a wall between our content and business operations. This wall is designed to prevent our writers and the review process from being influenced or impacted by our business partnerships. This way, all reviews can provide an unbiased review that serves the interests of our users.

  • About the Company

Hemp Bombs was founded in 2016 with the mission of providing high quality hemp products using the top of the line industrial hemp plants. What stands out most is their loud and vibrant packaging, which is reminiscent of tattoos. Unfortunately, they do not provide much background information about their company’s team members, their farming practices, or product formulation processes.

Their FAQ page is somewhat comprehensive and provides information about their shipping process, how to use their products, and what to expect with CBD. They have a blog page with ample information about CBD, their manufacturing processes, and tips for using CBD. In addition, they have multiple videos on YouTube with information about their company and CBD in general.

The product pages on Hemp Bombs’ website are comprehensive and informative. They also post customer reviews on each page.

Each batch of their products is tested both in house and by third party labs. We evaluated the results for their lip balm, which showed that there is 127.1mg of CBD per container, which is 2.1mg more than listed. This means there is a CBD variance of 2%, which is well below the acceptable 10%. There is no detectable THC in this sample. This product was not tested for contaminants such as pesticides, microbes, mycotoxins, heavy metals, and solvents.

    Leafreport’s market reports score

Edibles report – Hemp Bombs received «B» and «F» scores in our edibles products report for their 2 tested products where we tested 40 different edible products in an independent lab.

    Manufacturing Process

Hemp Bombs purchases their hemp from American farms, however, they do not specify exactly where the farms are located. They note that the farming practices are pesticide free, although they do not have a USDA organic certification at this time. Their manufacturing facilities are FDA registered and CGMP certified. Plus, they note that all of their employees receive extensive training before coming on board at their manufacturing facility in Tampa, Florida.

As part of their quality control, each batch of raw ingredients is tested and compared to their standardized samples using a Near Infrared Spectrophotometer. After their products are made, each product is assigned a batch number and tested both in house and verified using third party testing to assess its potency and purity. They also keep records and a small sample of each batch to evaluate stability in the future for quality assurance.

They did not mention how they extract their CBD, and we reached out via email to find out more about their farming, manufacturing, and extraction process. After a second attempt, they let us know it is ethanol extraction.

When looking at their third party lab results, we found that some products were tested for contaminants, such as heavy metals, pesticides, and solvents, and others were not. We tried to scan the QR codes on the product, which was unsuccessful. We also tried using the batch number lookup function on their website, which was not functional. We were able to locate some of our products’ batches in the available reports online. Some of our products’ batches were not listed, and we again reached out to customer care.

We assessed the results for their CBD Dog Biscuits, which showed there is 11.29mg of CBD per biscuit, which is 1.29mg more than listed for a CBD variance of 13%. This is higher than the acceptable 10% CBD variance. There is no detectable THC, and the product was not tested for contaminants.

Hemp Bombs offers an array of products including CBD oils, edibles, vape products, topicals, and pet products.

    Buying Experience

When searching for products on the Hemp Bombs, all of their products are easily found under the “shop tab.” They have categorized their products by type, which allows you to see the different types of CBD products available. They have quite a bit of information about the product, the ingredients in each product and CBD/THC content, how to use it, and what to expect after using the product. After adding a product to your cart, you can check out as a guest or login if you are a returning customer. Overall, the shopping process is straightforward. The last step is adding your billing and shipping information.

Shipping is free for orders of $75, and products arrive in about 5 to 10 business days, which is longer than comparable CBD brands. They also ship internationally to Australia, France, Hong Kong and Ireland. Products arrive in several weeks. The products are packaged in a discrete, brown cardboard box. Inside, the fragile products are cushioned with bubble wrap, and the gummies are packaged with cold packs to protect them from melting.

To contact their customer care team, you can call or use the email inquiry box. They do not provide an email address, physical address, or live chat. If you are unhappy with your purchase, Hemp Bombs will refund you in full with their 30 day money back guarantee.

We contacted the customer service line via email a few times to ask about their growing, CBD extraction and manufacturing process. Their response was swift but was not comprehensive. They did not answer concerning what type of extraction method they use.

We asked again, with no response. More than half of our products did not have third party lab results available that matched their batch number. We reached out via email to ask for them, and they responded after about 5 days and included the results in the email. They also mentioned that their extraction process utilizes ethanol.

The Sleep CBD Gummies come in a black plastic bottle with a non-child proof screw top lid. The label includes the product’s name, amount of CBD per bottle (750mg), and per gummy (15mg). They do not list the type of CBD or the extraction method. The ingredients include corn syrup, gelatin, and pectin, which means they are not vegan friendly, and artificial colors and flavors. Each gummy also has 5mg of melatonin. There are 50 gummies per bottle.

These gummies are intended to be taken to enhance sleep. Keep in mind, we have not verified these claims. The gummies are small, soft, cubes that are covered in sugar crystals. They are multi-colored and smell and taste sweet and fruity.

We tried to scan the QR code on the bottle and search the batch number to access the third party lab results. Both were unsuccessful. We contacted customer service for the results which showed there is 16.1mg of CBD per gummy, which is 1.1mg more than listed for a CBD variance of 7%. This is within the acceptable 10% variance. There is no detectable THC, and this sample passed tests for contaminants such as pesticides, microbes, mycotoxins, heavy metals, and solvents.

CBD Hand and Body Lotion review

The CBD Hand and Body Lotion comes in a black plastic bottle with a pump top. The label includes the amount of CBD (125mg), size (50ml), directions, and ingredients. This lotion is amber scented. It is formulated in a base that includes dimethicone, shea butter, and marula oil. It is intended to be applied topically, as needed. However, we have not verified these claims.

The lotion is a medium consistency, white, and has a pleasant amber scent. It absorbs into the skin easily and does not leave any residue.

We tried to scan the QR code on the bottle and search the batch number to access the third party lab results. Both were unsuccessful. We contacted customer service for the results which showed there is 126.5mg of CBD per bottle, which is 1.5mg more than listed for a CBD variance of 1%, well within the acceptable 10% variance. There is no detectable THC, and this sample passed tests for contaminants such as pesticides, microbes, mycotoxins, heavy metals, and solvents.

125mg CBD Oil – Peppermint review

The Hemp Bombs 125mg CBD Oil comes in a glass, amber bottle with a dropper lid. The label has the amount of CBD per bottle (125mg), type (broad spectrum). size (30ml), flavor (peppermint), ingredients, and directions. It is made with MCT oil, grapeseed oil, hemp oil, and artificial flavoring. It is intended for sublingual use, up to four times per day. Leafreport has not verified these usage claims.

The oil is clear and thin in consistency. It drops easily from the dropper, which was not marked with measuring lines. It tastes like synthetic peppermint, similar to a candy cane.

We tried to scan the QR code on the bottle and search the batch number to access the third party lab results. Both were unsuccessful. We contacted customer service for the results which showed there is 127.1mg of CBD per bottle, which is 2.1mg more than listed for a CBD variance of 2%. This is within the acceptable 10% variance. There is no detectable THC, and this sample passed tests for contaminants such as pesticides, microbes, mycotoxins, heavy metals, and solvents.

The cooling gel appears as a translucent, white, jelly blob. It is giggly and wet to the touch. You can smell the minty menthol immediately and feel the cooling effects once it is applied. On the skin, the gel is very thin and feels water based. It leaves no residue.

We tried to scan the QR code on the bottle and search the batch number to access the third party lab results. Both were unsuccessful. We contacted customer service for the results which showed there is 1035.3mg of CBD per bottle, which is 35.3mg more than listed for a CBD variance of 4%. This result is within the acceptable 10% variance. There is no detectable THC, and this sample passed tests for contaminants such as pesticides, microbes, mycotoxins, heavy metals, and solvents.

    CBD Lip Balm review

The CBD Lip Balm from Hemp Bombs comes in a cardboard box which lists the flavor (coconut vanilla), amount of CBD (125mg), size (0.25oz), ingredients, and directions for use. This lip balm is made with castor oil, sweet almond oil, cacao butter, and shea butter. It is intended to be applied to the lips as needed. This use has not been verified by our team. They do not specify what type of CBD is used or how it is extracted.

Inside the box, the lip balm is in a black plastic tub with a screw top. The lip balm is a light yellow in color. To apply, you use your finger to spread the balm onto your lips. The lip balm smells of coconut and vanilla and is smooth on the lips. It feels hydrating and light.

We found the product’s third party lab results posted on the website. The results show that there is 127.1mg of CBD per container, which is 2.1mg more than listed. This means there is a CBD variance of 2%, which is well below the acceptable 10%. There is no detectable THC in this sample. This product was not tested for contaminants such as pesticides, microbes, mycotoxins, heavy metals, and solvents.

    CBD Dog Biscuits review

The CBD Dog Biscuits are packaged in a plastic sleeve with a resealable top. The package lists the number of treats (8), amount of CBD per treat (10mg), total CBD (80mg), type of CBD (broad spectrum), ingredients, and how to use the biscuits. These dog treats are gluten and grain free. They are made with chicken, pork, pea protein, whey, artificial colors, and vitamins. The suggested serving size is based on the dog’s weight.

The biscuits are bone shaped and are orange, green, beige, and red in color. They smell like a typical dog biscuit and are hard. They will break under pressure and have a crumbly texture.

We assessed the results for their CBD Dog Biscuits that were available on the website. They showed 11.29mg of CBD per biscuit, which is 1.29mg more than listed for a CBD variance of 13%. This is higher than the acceptable 10% CBD variance. There is no detectable THC, and the product was not tested for contaminants.

This product is not actually listed on the Hemp Bombs website with the pet products. It is unclear what the selling price is, or if this product is still for sale.
