Bluebird Botanicals holds many certifications that demonstrate their commitment to transparency to their customers, as well as their respect and desire to protect the environment. They are a B Corporation, which can only be attained when a company exhibits the highest environmental and ethical responsibility. They are vegan, cruelty free, and U.S. Hemp Authority certified, just to name a few designations. Overall this company is transparent and has an admirable mission and reputation.
The company uses regenerative farming practices, however, they do not have a USDA organic certification at this time. They use a combination of extraction processes for their CBD, including CO2, ethanol, and steam. Each product is third party tested, and for the most part, their products have an acceptable CBD variance and always pass for THC and contaminants. Quality wise, Bluebird checks all the boxes we like to see.
Bluebird’s product range is a bit smaller than other companies as they do not have any gummies, edibles, or vape products. However, their prices are reasonable and range from $0.05 to $0.18 per mg of CBD for their tinctures, capsules, and lotions. Their regular CBD tinctures are priced higher per mg of CBD than their concentrated tinctures, capsules, lotions, and pet products. Their prices overall are somewhat average to a bit above average in the field as most CBD tinctures range from $0.05 to $0.10 per mg of CBD. When it comes to their CBD isolate, their prices are as low as less than $0.01 per mg of CBD when buying in bulk.

In our review process, we receive CBD products directly from the brand to personally review ourselves, so we can give you an accurate idea of the packaging, potency, taste, smell, feel, and overall experience of each product. We also discuss the company’s shipping and returns policy.
Another important step we take is reviewing each individual product for details such as the certificate of analysis to assess the CBD level and CBD variance, THC level, and contaminants.
We take all factors into account and give each CBD brand and each CBD product a score for each parameter.
All of the information we collect is generated into a concise, easy to read review and put into our extensive database. Keep in mind, our reviews are never intended to substitute or act as medical advice.
Our database collects key information for each product, including CBD product prices, potencies, third-party lab test results, flavors, additional ingredients, hemp quality, extract types, product variety, and more.
We then use all of this combined data to give each brand and product a standardized rating out of five points.
There are many factors we consider when we review the quality, integrity and products of a CBD brand. We rate each brand on several factors including:
Another way Leafreport stands out from other CBD review websites is our evidence-based market reports. For each one, we purchase different types of CBD products and send them for independent lab testing to check whether their levels of CBD and other cannabinoids match the label.
Writers and editors conduct our reviews and our database on an annual basis but continually make updates throughout the year. We maintain frequent contact with brands and highlight any changes in offerings.
Our review team is made up of a wide chain of qualified CBD review writers, some with medical degrees, some with statistics backgrounds, others with ample experience in the CBD arena. Each and every one of our CBD reviews are approved by our medical reviewer before being published on our website to ensure all information is accurate.
While Leafreport does have partnerships with many of the reviewed brands, we manage potential conflicts of interest by maintaining a wall between our content and business operations. This wall is designed to prevent our writers and the review process from being influenced or impacted by our business partnerships. This way, all reviews can provide an unbiased review that serves the interests of our users.
Bluebird Botanicals is a family owned CBD company that was founded in 2012. Their focus is on delivering high quality CBD products at a fair price to their customers while respecting the planet through regenerative and sustainable agricultural practices. They have taken numerous steps to ensure they are transparent with their customers, such as holding the following certifications: vegan, Leaping Bunny Approved cruelty free, glyphosate residue free, Certified B Corporation, and U.S. Hemp Authority. To be a Certified B Corporation, a business must meet the highest standards for both social and environmental ethics and responsibility. The focus must not only be on profit but also on social and environmental protection and improvement. As a Certified B Corporation, Bluebird Botanicals demonstrates its commitment to transparency and humanitarianism.
Although Bluebird Botanicals is remarkably transparent regarding their farming and manufacturing practices, there is not much information about who is behind the company, the founders, or who formulates their products. However, getting in touch with their customer care team is relatively easy as they have multiple contact options, including phone, email, and an address, which is located in Louisville, CO. There is no live chat option on their website. Their FAQ page covers common questions about CBD and how to use it, however, it lacks information about their shipping and returns policies. They do offer full refunds within 30 days’ purchase, however they will not refund products based on taste. Their product pages are detailed and provide ample information about each product and how to use it, the type and quantity of CBD, reviews, the price, and a full list of ingredients.
Bluebird Botanicals is committed to helping those in need, and offer several assistance programs so that veterans, those on long term disability, or people with low income can still benefit from using their products. Also, they support non-profit programs, including Conscious Alliance, Paradox Sports, Washington State University’s Save the Honeybee Program, and Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies. Their assistance programs and support for non-profits affirm their altruistic reputation.
As a quality control measure, Bluebird Botanicals third party tests all batches of their products through the lab company Botanacor. Their test parameters include the CBD quantity, terpenes, and THC content, as well as contaminants such as heavy metals, mycotoxins, solvents, and pesticides. We assessed their Hemp Classic CBD Oil, which was listed as having 250mg of full spectrum CBD per 30ml bottle and less than 0.3% THC. The lab results showed that there was 267mg of CBD, which is 17mg more than listed, for a variance of 7%. This is below the acceptable 10% variance. The THC content was 0.05%, which is below the 0.3% cutoff, and the sample was free from contaminants. These results show that their CBD products are accurate in their labeling and content.
Pricing report – Bluebird Botanicals was listed in «А» price rank (Bargain grade) on our 2021 pricing report. In this report, we checked the prices of the 137 brands in the industry and compared for each category the cheapest and most expensive products.
Pet products report – Bluebird Botanicals received a «B» score in our pet products report where we tested 55 pet products in an independent lab.
The majority of Bluebird Botanicals hemp is grown in the USA, specifically in Colorado. The only exception is the organic hemp they source from Canada, which is used for their hemp seed oil that is part of their Hemp Classic and Hemp Signature formulas. They practice regenerative agriculture, which means their farming practices help improve the health of the soil, reduce waste, and reduce carbon emissions, all of which are supportive of environmental health and sustainability.
Bluebird Botanicals’ manufacturing process adheres to Good Manufacturing Practices standards. In fact, their manufacturing processes were audited by Eurofins Scientific, a well respected manufacturing auditing agency. In 2019 they received a 100% rating. They also hold a glyphosate residue free certification and were the first in the CBD industry to receive this recognition. At this time, they do not have a USDA organic certification. To extract CBD, Bluebird uses three methods: CO2 extraction, ethanol extraction, and steam distillation. They produce both full spectrum CBD as well as CBD isolate.
To ensure their products adhere to their high quality standards, Bluebird Botanicals third party tests each batch of their products. This practice is vital in the CBD industry, as CBD is not regulated by the FDA. Third party testing verifies that the THC and CBD content are accurate, and products are free from contaminants like heavy metals or pesticides. We looked at the lab results for the Immune Support Vitamin D3 & CBD Oil using the bottle’s batch number.
The third party lab results show that the THC content was 0.05%, which is below the 0.3% cutoff. The CBD content was 261mg, and the listed quantity was 250mg. This means there was 11mg more CBD than listed for a variance of 4%. This variance is within the industry acceptable 10% variance. This sample also passed tests for all contaminants, including microbes, solvents, mycotoxins, heavy metals, and pesticides.

Overall, they were helpful in answering our question but took a bit longer than expected to respond.
We ordered 30ml of the Immune Support Vitamin D3 & CBD Oil. Each 0.5ml serving contains 4.2mg of full spectrum CBD along with 2500IU of vitamin D3 in a base of fractionated coconut oil. It comes in an amber glass bottle, which lists the total quantity of CBD (250mg per bottle), the ingredients and nutrition facts. Each bottle contains 60 servings. The bottle recommends taking up to two servings per day maximum.
The oil itself was clear, thin in viscosity, and had a strong herbal smell of hemp. It was pungent, and the terpenes and hemp phytocannabinoids were detectable on your tongue. There was no added flavor, so this oil tasted quite earthy.
There was a batch number and QR code on the product. Using the batch number, we located the third party lab results, which show that the THC content was 0.05%, which is below the 0.3% cutoff, and the CBD content was 261mg. This means there was 11mg more CBD than listed for a variance of 4%, less than the acceptable 10% variance. This sample also passed tests for all contaminants, including microbes, solvents, mycotoxins, heavy metals, and pesticides.
The Companion CBD Hemp Oil For Dogs & Cats came in an amber, glass bottle with a dropper lid. The label listed the total quantity of CBD per bottle, 250mg, and the amount per 0.5ml serving, which was 4.2mg. The CBD was full spectrum and mixed with organic virgin hemp seed oil. The directions suggested administering 15 drops (0.5ml), by mouth, as needed. Keep in mind, this use has not been verified by us.
The oil inside was clear, yellow, and thin in viscosity. The terpenes and hemp fragrance were pungent, but not overpowering. The oil drops easily from the dropper as well.
The bottle had both a batch number and QR code. We used the batch number to assess the third party lab results, which show that the THC content was 0.05%, which is below the 0.3% cutoff, and the CBD content was 267mg. This means there was 17mg more CBD than listed for a variance of 7%. This is below the acceptable 10% variance. This sample also passed tests for all contaminants, including microbes, solvents, mycotoxins, heavy metals, and pesticides.
The Concentrated CBD Capsules we received came in a two pack sleeve. Each capsule had 15mg of full spectrum CBD for a total of 30mg of CBD per package. The package consisted of a small, yellow, plastic sleeve that lists CBD, ingredients, and suggested use. The capsules were made from gelatin, which is not vegan friendly. The only other ingredient was organic virgin hemp seed oil.
The capsules were clear, squishy, and about the size of your pinky fingernail. You can see the amber colored CBD liquid inside. These capsules had no taste or smell.
We used the batch number on the package to locate the third party lab results. There was also a QR code to scan. The results showed that there was 17.3mg of CBD per capsule, which was 2.3mg more than stated on the label, for a CBD variance of 15%. This is higher than the acceptable 10% variance. The THC level was 0.14%, which is less than the 0.3% cutoff. These capsules passed tests for microbes, solvents, mycotoxins, heavy metals, and pesticides.
We ordered the Hemp CBD Silk Lotion, which contained 1250mg of full spectrum CBD per 6oz container. It was packaged in a coral colored plastic squeeze tube that was manufactured using 100% recycled plastic. The label listed the ingredients and directions for use, as well as the quantity of CBD per container. This lotion was designed to be applied topically to dry or irritated areas of skin areas. Keep in mind, we have not verified these claims. The base of this lotion consisted of hemp seed oil, coconut oil, jojoba oil, and essential oils from lavender, geranium, and rosemary.
The lotion exhibited a medium viscosity and rubs into the skin quickly. You can dispense the lotion from the bottle with little effort. The lotion was a beige color and smelled of geranium.
The bottle had a QR code, but no visible batch number. The third party labs results show that there was 1504.5mg of CBD per bottle, which was 254.5mg more than listed leading to a 20% variance. The THC level was 0.01%, which is less than the 0.3% cutoff. This lotion passed tests for all contaminants, including microbes, solvents, mycotoxins, heavy metals, and pesticides.
The Hemp Sample Pack included a 10ml (0.33oz) bottle of the Classic, Signature, and Complete CBD tinctures. Each bottle had 84mg of full spectrum CBD with 4.2mg per 0.5ml serving. There were 20 servings per bottle. The tinctures were packaged in amber glass bottles with a dropper lid. According to the bottle, they all were intended to be taken by mouth up to ten times per day. This use has not been verified by us.
The ingredients used to formulate each oil differ slightly. The Complete included both raw and steam distilled CBD, terpenes, and phytocannabinoids formulated in a base of organic MCT oil. This oil was deep yellow and of a thin viscosity. It had a mild taste, however, the terpenes and plant phytocannabinoids gave it an herbal flavor.
The Signature contained frankincense carterii CO2 extract and cold pressed organic black cumin seed oil in a base of organic olive oil. This oil was a deep yellow color with a thin viscosity. Both the fragrance and taste of frankincense came through in this oil. This oil leaves a bit of a tingle at the back of your throat.
The Classic contains full spectrum CBD that was blended with organic, Canadian grown hemp seed oil. It was also a deep yellow colored oil, however, it had a very mild taste. The hemp terpenes added an earthy smell that was not overpowering.
We used the batch number on each bottle to access the third party lab results. The results showed that the quantity of CBD ranged from 8.06mg/ml to 9.5mg/ml, which means the CBD variance ranged from 4% to 13%. The THC content ranged from 0.03% to 0.05%, which is below the 0.3% cutoff. These oils passed tests for microbes, solvents, mycotoxins, heavy metals, and pesticides.
This sample pack contained a total of 252mg of CBD and sells for $32.95. Therefore, each mg of CBD costs $0.13.
